States for Service

States for Service (S4S) is ASC’s privately funded, grassroots policy arm. Composed of service commissions; AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps Seniors, and Volunteer Generation Fund programs; volunteer engagement professionals; and individual alums and champions, the S4S coalition works to reinforce the critical role service commissions play in developing and advancing service in states and territories to meet community needs. S4S aims to influence policy, grant, and regulatory issues related to state and territorial service commissions and AmeriCorps programs.

Join S4S

Are you interested in joining States for Service? We are always looking for new members who are passionate about national service and volunteerism; want to learn the ins and outs of public policy; understand the important role of state and local organizations in the national service ecosystem; and hope to advance new policies that will improve and expand service and volunteerism.

Memberships are for one year and must be renewed annually.
  • Statewide for commissions with 26+ programs: $3,000
  • Statewide for commissions with 11-25 programs: $2,000
  • Statewide for commissions with 1-10 programs: $1,000
  • Commissions only (no programs included): $500
  • Programs and partners: $150
  • Individuals: $50
  • Young professionals and alums: $25

  • Call-to-action days and campaigns
  • Policy toolkits and technical assistance to effectively engage elected officials
  • Monthly coalition webinars with key policy updates, guest speakers, and policy experts
  • Advocacy and representation of state service interests to Congress, National Governors Association (NGA), National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), and federal agency officials
  • Opportunity to serve as a State Service Leader (SSL)
  • Ability to earn a Certificate in National Service Advocacy
