ASC Land AcknowledgmentAs part of our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, America’s Service Commissions would like to acknowledge the Indigenous land on which we live, work, and serve. ASC is headquartered in Washington, DC, and several of our staff members live and work in the area, which is on Nacotchtank (Anacostan) land. In addition, other staff live and work in locations around the country that are on the following Indigenous groups’ lands.
We acknowledge this land to honor the history of Indigenous peoples, who have been the victims of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced removal by the United States government. But Indigenous people are not extinct. They have survived, against great odds, and continue to work to preserve their cultures and languages. We acknowledge their land to celebrate their present and all the ways they support their own Indigenous communities as well as the United States and all of us who reside here. The struggle for Indigenous rights and sovereignty is ongoing, and we acknowledge the land as a way to dream for a future in which the effects of colonialism and systemic oppression no longer impact Indigenous peoples in the United States and around the globe. Land acknowledgment is only one part of supporting Indigenous peoples. We hope you will consider taking one of the following actions as a symbol of solidarity with Indigenous people.
