We hosted our 2023 Membership Assembly last week on September 21. During the virtual assembly, ASC leadership presented an update on our work and priorities and the membership voted on bylaw amendments and a slate of Board members and officers for the 2023-2024 term. As always, we thank our membership for their support and engagement — especially our 2022-2023 volunteers!

AmeriCorps Fiscal and Program Bootcamps
|
This week, we hosted our annual AmeriCorps Fiscal Bootcamp and AmeriCorps Program Bootcamp in Austin, Texas. These bootcamps are designed to offer new program officers and fiscal officers (at both commissions and programs) an introductory course on all things AmeriCorps and national service. It was a great week with a great turnout — nearly 100 people attended!

Last week, the White House announced the American Climate Corps, a national service corps that will address environmental and conservation issues. ASC and States for Service applaud the creation of the American Climate Corps and thank the Biden-Harris Administration for recognizing the power of national service to tackle the climate crisis.

In July, the House Labor-HHS appropriations subcommittee proposed a $660.94 million cut to the AmeriCorps agency budget, while the Senate appropriations committee proposed a $50 million cut. At the proposed Senate mark, the agency anticipates a reduction in the number of ASN positions from 66,900 to 44,800.
For effective strategies on connecting with Congress around this issue, view the Advocate's Guide to AmeriCorps and FY24 Appropriations. We also ask that you participate in the Individuals Action Alert on FY24 AmeriCorps Appropriations to let your representatives know you support investment in AmeriCorps. Please share the action alert with your networks, as any individual can participate.
If Congress is unable to complete the appropriations process or pass a continuing resolution by the end of September, there could be a government shutdown. The AmeriCorps agency has released a contingency plan for this possibility.
